Hand Applique Basics

One-on-One Personal Instruction By Appointment Only Skill Level: Beginner or Experienced (Refresher Course) Applique Basics introduce the student to the fine art of hand sewing and hand applique! Based on Mimi Dietrich’s book Baltimore Basics – Album Quilts from Start to Finish. The student will practice needle-turn applique along with many other hand applique techniques. Completion of a Baltimore Album Sample Book (see shop display) or small wall hanging is possible as a keepsake of all the sewing techniques. Holiday Houses

Basics

Anita's Arrowhead a La Susan

Create an arrowhead block from 10" squares with no templates and no wasted yardage. Sew two seams and make three rotary cuts to yield all 10 units to form the block. Sew a four-patch and then a nine patch and the block is complete and ready to trim to 11: square. Grab a layer cake and I'll meet you in class

Basic Redwork Embroidery Club

The love of redwork embroidery does back many years and remains popular today! It’s easy, relaxing and very portable. We will start at the very beginning, going over the use of a light box and tracing your patterns to fabric. You will learn basic stitches and the technique to get fine inside and out side points as well as colonial knots…and keeping the back of the project looking nice and neat too. Binding 101: Perfect Every Time

If you ever dream of entering your masterpiece quilt in a judged show, you want all the details to be perfect. That includes the binding. In this class we will learn how to create ‘invisible’ binding – meaning you cannot tell where it began or ended. We will also learn how to do perfectly mitered binding corners. No exotic tools are needed and you’ll leave the class with a reference piece showing all the steps along the way.

During this class you will complete a simple sampler that consists of four common quilt block: rail fence, 9 patch, flying geese, and friendship star.

English Paper Piecing Club

If you love to do handwork and portable projects, won’t you consider joining us for an afternoon of English paper piecing. We are a warm and friendly group who stitch, chat, and share ideas with each other for a very enjoyable afternoon each month. Monthly Stash Sampler Quilt

Join us once a month while we create this beautiful sampler quilt. You will receive patterns for two blocks each month to be completed using fabric from your beloved stash. You will bring your two completed blocks in the following month in order to receive the next two patterns. At the first meeting we will focus on the colors and composition of the quilt. Count on having your quilt completed by year-end. This class offers you an opportunity to use all your creative skills in color, design and quilt completion. You will also have a pattern you will want to use again and again. We are scheduling this class on the same day as “Ask Sue” so you will be able to finish your blocks the same day, as well as enjoy a day of quilting and sharing with friends.

Quilt Appraisal with Karen Housner

Karen Housner has been quilting for 22 years and appraising quilts for the past twelve years. A fifth generation quilter and native Texan, she was taught by her Mother. Certified by the American Quilter’s Society, she travels the state of Arizona, appraising, lecturing and conducting workshops. She has been active in the Arizona Quilters Guild for the past ten years, serving on the state board, working on the quilt show committee, and as a traveling teacher. Karen lives in Tempe, Arizona with her parrot Echo, her dog Bailey, and a bunch of old quilts.

Beads of Courage Bags

Have you thought you would like to find a way to help others? Well this is a fun, easy and very satisfying class to fulfill that need. We make the bags used in the Beads of Courage program at Phoenix Children's Hospital for seriously ill children. To find out more about this great program please go to www.beadsofcourage.org. All you need to bring is a sewing machine and a desire to make a child's hospital experience just a bit more bearable.
